5-0 out of 5 stars Best outdoor system on the market today!, October 12, 2010
From the moment I opened the box the Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master Security System with Night Vision was very easy to understand and had great setup diagrams with color coded ribbons for stress free setup. Where I was mounting the unit 20 feet off the ground I connected everything in the house and tested it to make sure it was working first. Once the camera was mounted in place I simply adjusted it to the area I wanted to monitor and then used electrical tape around the mount joints as they are not as tight as I would have expected and I did not want to have to climb a ladder after every wind storm to adjust. Setup was very quick after installing the mounting bracket.

It should be noted the the ribbon (power) cable that connects to the outdoor camera is so flat and thin that you can bring it in through a window without compromising the window seal when the window is fully closed. This is a huge plus as I did not need to drill a hole for it.

I set up email alerts and also I highly recommend if you have some blowing tree branches in view as I do that you set up particular areas for movement detections. If you do this and set the motion rate for recording you will capture only scenes of interest which makes it so much easier when reviewing recordings.

The master system comes with the network hardware and the invaluable command center. This is extremely easy to navigate. You can zoom, pan and tilt effortlessly. I am thinking of adding this software for remote viewing as well.

The night vision is suprisinging very very good in low to know light. I am extremely impressed with the night vision and have to say that it is well worth the extra money.

The only drawback I can see to this system is that if you enable and use the audio component which comes built in and has great range, picks up way to much wind. I would like to see an add on for wind noise reduction. This would not keep me from highly recommending this product. I did a lot and I mean a lot of research (hands on and reading) before making my decision to purchase this camera and I am very glad I did.

I highly recommend this product! Picture is extremely clear not washy like others. The audio is good enough to capture voices and sounds with in the entire viewing areas and sometimes beyond.

I was not able to figure out how to upload a few pictures with this review otherwise I would have.

Thank you Logitech for a superb and well built system that seems to have it all.

2-0 out of 5 stars decent picture but expensive, not always recording events and the mounts suck., October 23, 2010
I'm rewriting this review now that I've tested out the system for more than 2 weeks.

Unfortunately there are several areas where this system fails but I'm hoping its software related and there are fixes on the way.

First of all, the software included is easy to use but the way it works is extremely poor. I cannot get footage to record properly on my system. Either its because the cameras are not detecting motion until its too late, or because there's a delay from when the recording starts and when they were triggered. Either way, i've got nothing but an empty driveway after a car has driven down and past my camera, or footage of a person just walking out of frame once its stored on the hard drive. This is even after increasing the sensitivity which only results in constant false events. This makes this system pointless and a waste of money unless its fixed in the near future.

The framerate is too low when it does actually record, footage is blurry as a result. There's no way i can ever read a license plate as its been advertised unless its right in front of the camera.

the mount is garbage. Save yourself the nightmare and find a better quality one if you can. logitech should be ashamed to include such poor quality hardware with these expensive cameras.

if this system worked properly i.e. recording people walking up to my house which was the whole point of buying this thing, i'd give it a much higher score. the fact that i can use existing power lines makes it a breeze to install but without the ability for me to record footage consistently, i'll have no choice but to return this before my 30 days is up.

1-0 out of 5 stars Two Cameras, both no good, November 22, 2010
I purchased two of the outdoor 700e cameras along with the Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master Security System with Night Vision on September 27th; video quality is just ok but has way too many false alarms. Three weeks later the cameras were lost by the network and I had to do a "find cameras" diagnostic routine, one was found and the other was not. I left the one camera that could not be found plugged in (this was a mistake) hoping it would be discovered at some point but never was. A few days later I smelt something burning outside like wires, I did not want to believe it was the camera but as it turned out there was nothing else that could have been the cause so I unplugged it and the smell went away after about ten minuets. Now the other camera has gone missing, I have attempted to reset it and called Logitech support with no luck. The bottom line is that I am very disappointed in this system; I was hoping for a security system that would at least function, I did not get it. I will compliment Logitech on one aspect of this experience; they are sending me a UPS tag and will be refunding my purchase price. Unfortunately, it looks like it is back to the drawing board for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to the 750e or 750i Master Security System, September 30, 2010
I have the 750e Master System set up with two 700e cameras for external monitoring and one 700i camera for internal monitoring. The 700e camera has night vision and works VERY well in darkness, so you can monitor both the front and back of your house in darkness. I have been extremely impressed with the image and audio quality of these cameras, as well as the extremely easy installation.

The AV signal is transmitted via a powerline adapter, so you don't have to run cables through the house, as everything goes right through your existing electrical outlets.

The software allows you to connect up to six cameras to the system. These cameras can be set up with motion activation so that you only record when action is taking place. Another great feature is the fact that you can view the cameras from either a web browser or your cellular phone (Android, Blackberry, iPhone). There is also a premium online service where you can control the system remotely and review recorded video instead of only live video.

You will need a master system to use this camera, so please keep this in mind before purchasing!

Either of the products listed below are needed to use this camera:

Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master Security System with Night Vision

Logitech Alert 750i Indoor Master HD-quality Security System

Additional internal cameras can also be added to either of the master systems:

Logitech Alert 700i Indoor Add-on HD-quality Security Camera

    Bottom line: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
    5/5 stars

4-0 out of 5 stars Great system, just a few flaws, November 11, 2010
I try to keep up writing reviews for products I buy, especially the items that I myself do a lot of research on, before buying. So I'll break this down as best I can. I live in a 2-story, 2800 square foot home. And for the longest time, I've wanted a surveillance system to make me feel safe both when I am at home and away. The Logitech camera system and software does it right, with only a few minor issues, and I stress minor.

I have an Apple router but run Windows 7 on my PC; I'm also using the free application on my iPhone. I had zero problems with the software install, even when it came to Window's firewall. I'm currently running 2 indoor cameras and 1 outdoor camera...but, I actually plan on using nothing but outdoor cameras for my entire system (to include for inside surveillance). And that's about the only real issue I have with the system. The indoor camera works awesome and does what it should. It delivers good quality color video and even over the iPhone application or over the web (from Logitech's website), all of my friends all have said, "Wow, that looks awesome!" BUT, and it's a big BUT, once the sun goes down, the indoor cameras are very limited. Shy of the bad guy turning on all of the lights in my house, then committing his crime, the indoor camera is of little use during nighttime hours. And at first, I was okay with that because I'm home at night and it's actually the daytime when nobody is home. But then I bought the outdoor Logitech camera and WOW, what a difference because it holds the very same quality as the indoor camera, but also does a phenomenal job at night. So with that, I'm going to return the indoor cameras and use the outdoor cameras for outside as well as inside. But I still want to give my review on the indoor camera as I've been using it for about a month now.

    Pros:

Color Quality. Again, great color quality. Even using the digital zoom, I was impressed at how good it looks. My wife being the glass half empty type of person commented that you can't see the face of the person all that well. But my reply was - but you can sure as heck see his race, clothing description, weight, height, hair color and most importantly you can see if he is or isn't wearing gloves...hence, you could see clearly where he may have left evidence (fingerprints, DNA, etc).

Included 2GB media card. This is a great feature!! This means that if bad guy breaks in and thinks he's outsmarting you by stealing your computer (with the footage of him), you can still revert back to the camera itself to retrieve the footage saved to the media card. Another great thing about the camera media card is that your home computer does not need to be always on to be recording. For example, my computer goes into sleep mode after about an hour of inactivity. So if my computer is in hibernate mode for a full day, the cameras are still recording footage and will sync to my computer when it awakes. For it to work seamless, I just leave the Logitech software running in the task bar (background).

Software. Logitech did it right with the software. It was a very easy install, features are clear and I love that you can customize each camera you have on your network. For example, out of the 3 cameras I have, I only want 1 of them to send off text message alerts. Again, it's nice that the alerts are not just a system feature, but rather an individual camera setting. You can also adjust the duration of alerts to save yourself from getting thousand texts. For me, a 5 minute window is perfect, just as long as I get the initial text, I wouldn't be concerned about getting 20 more in under a 5 minute or however long of a window you choose. I also like the way the software saves all of the recorded video. With 3 cameras going, I've been getting a lot of recorded footage. The software not only allows you to use choose a given date and time to research, but if you were to search out for that file in Windows explorer, the software does a great job by saving the footage under the name of camera (for example "Living Room"), then the month (10 for October), then the day within that month. Being a police officer, I really like that if I had to turn over crucial footage (if my home was burglarized, etc), all of the footage would have clear a folder structure and time stamp that would make sense to any other investigating officer.

Alerts. This feature sealed the deal for me buying this system to begin with. You select a zone in which if motion occurs, an alert will be sent. For example, although my camera has a pretty wide shot of my living room to include front door, my only concern is if movement is picked up at the front door. Once motion is detected, a text message is sent to my phone. The alert text message is awesome; it says what camera picked up what motion and at what date and time...simple and efficient. BUT, I will mention alerts in the Cons section, so please read on.

Camera size. Again, I have both the indoor and outside camera and was very impressed by how small they were. I also lucked out that I have power sources on top of my potter shelves, so I was able to plug in the cameras without any wires being run down walls, etc. And because the cameras are small, I've actually told friends that I have the cameras and it still took them a while to actually figure out where.

The "wow" factor. I'll admit it, I'm that guy who loves his tech toys, who loves showing off new technology and how I make it work for my family's safety. The first day when I showed all of my police friends the system, everyone was amazed. I should get a kick back from Logitech on all of the potential customers I made for them. Being able to open the iPhone app and show my friends that I have 24/7 surveillance of my home, felt very cool. The iPhone app also works very well over 3g cell service (not just wi-fi).

    Cons:

Price. Well I mentioned the "wow" factor when I showed off the system to my friends. Well, I got the same expression when I told them how much. For me to get 6 cameras, all of them being the outdoor cameras, is a bit pricey. But, I will say that the software being free is nice. It's also nice to know that each camera comes with that 2GB media card (another plus that make the high costs seem understandable). And although I'm not that interested in audio, again, if you're going to pay the big bucks for a camera, at least it gives you color and audio as an option.

Night time quality. Again, if all you care about is crystal clear footage in the daytime, then the indoor camera is for you. But for me, I began to get frustrated that for so much money, I was only getting daytime footage. For a bit more money per camera, I feel that it was well worth it, to be able to see what's going on in my home 24/7.

Logitech server. This is a tough one to explain, but I'll do my best. When you install the cameras and software, the alert system is dependent on Logitech's servers / service. In the month that I've been using the camera, I only had 1 time that their servers went down. In that time, the cameras in my home were recording as they should BUT the alert notification system will not work if Logitech's service is down or disrupted. Although it was only down for a few hours, I was still very unpleased given the fact that the alert system is what it's all about. I don't want to come home to find my house has been burglarized and didn't get a text because the servers were down. Instead, I want to get a text message telling me someone is there, that way I can call the police and increase my chances of getting the suspect while he is still in the residence. The alert service has only been disrupted once, but makes me nervous for what's to come down the road as these cameras begin to sell.

Alerts. Again, read my Pros section about the alert function. Where I had a problem is how long it can take to get the alert text message. I've done some very extensive testing and it ranges between 40 seconds to 4 minutes from when my phone gets the alert text message. Now 4 minutes may not seem like a long time, but a skilled criminal can do A LOT in just a few minutes. I'm not too happy about the variations on alert times, especially since there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to why sometimes I get the notification in under a minute, but other times over 3 minutes. Clearly, it has to do with Logitech servers.

Plug outlet requirements. Although I get why you have to plug in your unit to the actual wall, it doesn't mean I have to like it. It's been a little bit of a challenge with some of my cameras to find a good discreet location coupled with having an available outlet there. I'm guessing that at some point, Logitech will begin selling overpriced extension cords or power bars that allow the cameras to work even without being directly plugged into the wall. I believe a read few reviews from people that have done this though; I would live to get their reply or feedback in this review thread.

    Thanks for reading!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great ad on camera, wish it had night vision, October 19, 2010
I already did a review of my 750 outdoor camera. I do lot that.

I added this one for inside my house, mainly because it was smaller and could be placed in more locations.

Overall I really like this product. My only criticism is that I wish it had a night vision mode. There are other cameras in the market which are similar in size which do offer this mode. With that feature, I could have used this camera as my baby monitor camera.

Other than that, it works great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheapie cable, but it works. Can't beat the $., August 19, 2008
It works. This isn't really high-end cable (go figure by the price), but you don't need to buy Monster cable to run a security camera. Just don't yank on the cable when fishing it into an attic space or the wall. You'll tear a cable.

I have a Q-See QSOCWC camera that came with a 60' cable but needed to extend the length. After adding the 120' extension I got nothing from the camera but white lines and total blanking of the video and no audio. After using just the 120' cable I got the same thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars it does the job, October 18, 2010
It's thin so it's easy to work with. But I'd keep it away from RFI sources. RFI and EMI easily penetrate the thin sheath causing interference. I'm running this through the plenum ceiling and it works great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow - Great Baby Monitor, June 27, 2009

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I was both and surprised and thrilled with the functionality and performance of the Lorex LW2002W. I really do mean thrilled with the performance. The video will give you more details on the functionality - but below is a summary of my likes and dislikes.

    Pros

    - Highly sensitive microphone
    - Low light capability
    - Very easy set-up
    - Will interface with your television - will allow for a split screen using your picture-in-picture.
    - Works with a recording device - a DVR, VCR, or other devices.
    - Alarm for any changes in status - if it detects movement or sound
    - Decent range (Not great but not bad)
    - Monitor will support up to 4 cameras

    Cons-

    - Need to watch for audio feedback if the monitor gets to close to the camera (It could wake a baby) ... note that this is standard for any audio equipment if the receiver gets to close to the source.
    - A bigger screen would be nice - if I was trying to find something to complain about

    Final Verdict-

Great product at a reasonable price - the Lorex LW2002W is a easy product to review and enjoy!

3-0 out of 5 stars So, so as a baby monitor, August 7, 2009
After doing quite a bite of research for a baby video monitor I narrowed it down to the Lorex LW2002W Digital and the Summer Infant Best View Digital. I wanted digital because I have had problems with interference with my old monitor.

Both have many similar features but I initially purchased the Lorex with 2 cameras over the Summer Infant because of the automatic cycling between cameras feature and AV port feature. With a lot of monitors if you have more than one camera hooked up you have to manually switch from one camera to the other. I have 2 small kids and I need to monitor them both. With the Lorex you can set it to automatically switch b/w cameras about every 5-8 sec. Also the Lorex has an AV port connection that allows you to connect the monitor to your TV.

The Lorex is a quality video monitor for the the price. However, after using the Lorex I sent it back because of one feature my wife and I did not like. It automatically mutes the sound if the noise in the room is below a certain level. When the sound in the room gets above that level the audio comes back on. Lorex customer service told me that the feature prevents listener from hearing a soft hissing sound (white noise) in the receiver when the monitor room is quiet. You can't disable this feature.

Don't get me wrong, it does pick up most sounds such as normal conversation, walking on hardwood, crying, something dropping on the floor, etc. But it does not pick up very soft sounds like a baby breathing, whispering or walking on carpet. This may sound trivial but at night while I'm sleeping great audio is important. It's usually the audio that alerts me that something is going on in the room. Then I look at the video to determine if it's trouble or not.

After returning the Lorex I purchased 2 Summer Infant Best Views to monitor both my kids at the sametime. I was unable to find a monitor in the <$200 range that met all my need, so this was my compromise. Fortunately I was able to get both of them at the same price (on Amazon) that I purchased the one Lorex with 2 cameras. The Summer Infant does not have the auto camera cycling and the AV connection but it does have a very nice pan & tilt feature that allows you to scan almost the entire room and the audio is very good. You can hear a baby breathing.

The Lorex is better suited for people who are looking for a reasonably priced (not cheap) low interference video monitor to monitor older toddlers, their property or for parents who don't feel they need a continuous sound feature. One of the previous reviewers stated she uses her Lorex with her old audio monitor and it works well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent system, good value, September 7, 2008
I looked at the other two similar systems available and this one is the best in my opinion:

Setup is extremely easy - charge and turn on. Picture quality both day and night vision are excellent.
Camera can be rotated at good variety of angles and can be battery powered (though night vision would drain batteries quickly).
It's digital, so neighbors can't see your cameras and you can't see theirs instead of yours.

What differentiated this from the other ones for me was:

    1) availability of additional cameras, up to 4 that can be monitored from same receiver, and
    2) this system uses Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum technology, so it can co-exist with your 802.11b/g access points. I was able to use my laptop over 802.11g just fine while using the camera receiver right next to it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pros and Cons of Lorex Baby Monitor, January 3, 2010
We found it challenging to compare monitors on-line. We settled on the Lorex, and are quite happy, but wanted to report pros and cons for the sake of others struggling to choose:

    Pros:

    --clear picture
--instant pairing of camera to receiver
    --good packaging and instructions
    --solid feel
--cameras and receiver use the same, small 9V AC adapter; receiver can be charged on or off its home base.
--doesn't look like scary spy equipment
--cute feature of being able to turn on the nightlight on the camera from the receiver. If someone waves for help, you can signal that you're on your way.
--bright red LED's to indicate sound being received--grabs your attention nicely if you're sitting quietly reading while baby's in another room asleep.
--cameras run well on 4 rechargeable AA batteries
--night and low-light performance are amazing, and the infrared lights are completely unobtrusive

    Cons:

--turns on at full volume, so that if monitor and receiver are in the same room, feedback can result. This is not fun at night when trying to use the monitor to help baby and partner sleep.
--related to this, there is no mute--you can turn the sound sensitivity and alarm volumes down, but can never be sure they are OFF.
--buttons on edges of device are too easily pressed by accident.
--camera units are very slighly top-heavy.
--slick, rounded profile of receiver is slippery; doesn't stand up well; slides around on bed or couch.

    Hope this helps,

    Sanjay

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Product with one AMAZINGLY STUPID FLAW, April 10, 2010
This video monitor is - by far - the best on the market with the exception of one issue. Seriously, my wife and I have have hunted, researched, and tested more than we care to admit and this is the best in almost every way. It has the best picture, the best system of connecting everything, the longest A/V cord, a recharging stand, and brilliant syncing when the portable receiver is placed in the stand (without having to connect/reconnect any cords: genius!).

So, why would I give it ONE star? Because ALL of these qualities are completely trumped by one "feature" that obliterates the value of the product. Specifically, it has an "audio auto-off" function that only plays sound over a specific volume. But, that's no problem, we'll just turn that feature off...Oh, wait! what?!? you can't turn that feature off??? That's just stupid. We are not the type of parents that rush into our baby's room over every sound he makes (in fact, we are probably too willing to let his crying escalate before intervening). However, I do not want some gadget dictating when I can and cannot hear my son.

As well thought out as this video monitor is, this one feature - I suspect - is the product of OVER-thinking. It's a hideous and horrible mistake. This monitor would have earned five stars, but for this one, tragic flaw. Oh, and in case you think I'm dramatizing this review...I AM!!!...but, I thought everyone else was too. I thought that we could live with this "feature." We cannot.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good monitor, except few flaws..., February 21, 2009
My son grew up with Summer infant video monitor, until last month when my husband misplaced the receiver.
I have tried the Safety 1st High-Def Digital Video Monitor, returned it (read my review on that one)
Then I purchased this monitor and still deciding if I should return it and try another.
Few things I discovered so far.

    PROS:
    - Great clear picture when available
    - Very sensitive microphone
    - Convenient charging cradle

    CONS:
    - The biggest concern for me - the red lights for night vision come on when you turn off the lights and they scare my son. I know it might sound silly - but the first time he saw them - he freaked out, totally. Now he does not let me turn the camera his way, so I basically have an audio monitor for now. I'm hoping to convince him not to be scared so I can see him, but he won't give up yet. To mention - they do look spooky those small bright red dots in the circle... My son told me they also made a beep, but this is unverified :)
    - Sound mutes when baby is quiet and then suddenly comes on when it loses signal or baby stirs. This sometimes shakes me a little when I'm in the quiet room.
    - Range is not that great. In my 5,000 sq.ft 2-story house I have quite a few "low signal" and "no signal" zones. But I also had them with Summer Infant monitor. The Safety 1-st monitor had a bigger range and worked almost anywhere in the house.
    - The on/off button should be re-located as it is often pressed accidentally because of its location.
    Hope this helps.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wow - How Stupid is this?, August 6, 2009
I don't usually bother writing too many reviews but I had to with this one. This product seemed to have good reviews so I bought one. The first night, it worked great and then 2nd night, the signal kept dropping from the camera to the receiver. And no, it doesn't make any sound or warning when the signal drops. It is used for the baby's room so it is a critical piece of equipment for our family. The signal dropping was intermittent and I tried pairing the receiver to the camera, reboot, etc... and finally gave up. I called customer support and they said that if I have a wireless phone at home, to turn it off and it will work right. There is no documentation or warning on this in any of their manuals. So, I asked, "let me get this straight - I can use this system but I can't have my phone on"... answer "Uhh.. yeah". Stupid!!!!!! It's going back to Amazon with a big complaint.
Note: This same system has various different names on Amazon, the Safe Baby "Guaranteed Interference Free" system is same product, different name. Don't waste your money!

4-0 out of 5 stars Summary of Reviews - Hope to save you a bit of research time., February 3, 2010
Ok, first the disclosure; I don't own this product yet. I'm just like you... researching and trying to decide which baby monitor is the best. I've come to a conclusion, and I'm posting this simply with the hope that you might not have to spend 5 hours of your life doing what I just did. In other words, hours ago I wish I could have read someone's "Summary of User Reviews". So, if it helps, great. If it doesn't, sorry... just trying to help.

After reading dozens and dozens of reviews at various websites (including Amazon) I've decided that this Lorex baby monitor (model Lw2002 in either white or black; thus model Lw2002W or Lw2002B) is the best monitor out there for several reasons. However, as we'll see, it's not perfect. First, the good news.

    PROS:
    1. Very clear daylight picture.
    2. Clear sound.
    3. Infrared "Night" vision or dark mode that is quite clear.
    4. Motion and/or sound detection triggering an audible alarm/beep/video image at the monitor.
    5. Security of signal frequency hopping digital transmission. (So the neighbor's baby monitor can't see or hear your baby.)
    6. Because of the signal's digital frequency hopping (1000 times per second) the device is very unlikely to interfere
with, or suffer from interference from, your wireless router, cordless phones, microwave oven, etc.
    7. Support for up to 4 cameras; all can be viewed on the same handheld monitor.
    8. Auto-switching mode, for switching between multiple cameras (if you have more than one) every few seconds.
    9. Remotely controllable (from the handheld monitor) night-light.
    10. Ability to output video to a TV or video recorder. (e.g. set it up as a picture-in-picture while
you're watching your favorite TV program.)
    11. Ease of setup. (Simply plug it into your house power outlet - or charge and use the batteries - and you're done.)
    12. Reasonably low price.

Now the bad news. Although the majority of users find the product usable, and many find it ideal, the following areas are the 4 most consistently repeated of the complaints voiced by users in the countless reviews I've read. If you can live with these few product deficiencies, then this very well may be the best baby monitor for you too.

    CONS:
    1. Automute: By far, the number one complaint that people have is that they cannot set the sound to stay on all the time. The monitor will silence itself (mute sound and turn off the screen) if there isn't any "significant" audio or motion coming from the baby's room after a certain period of time (e.g. 10 seconds) but will of course turn on again if there is a "significant" sound or motion such as a baby talking, crying or moving. Again, this feature can't be disabled. However, to the manufacturer's credit this sensitivity is adjustable, and apparently, the device will still flash red lights (from one to several - depending on the intensity of the sound) as sounds are detected, even when the monitor is muted.

The device designer's idea, as stated by them, is to allow the parents to sleep without the white noise "hiss" that would exist with constant reproduction of a "quiet" room's sound. But many people find the sensitivity adjustment to be insufficient and wish that they could set the monitor to relay sound or picture ALL the time. (At the very least sound.) In fact, many feel that the suddenness of the device turning on and relaying sounds is more alarming than the constant "hiss" and/or noise of the child would be. As a result, these people find this muting "feature" to be disturbing and would clearly prefer to hear every sound and rely on their own brain to detect abnormalities in the child's environment or breathing, etc.

For some, they work around this by using another traditional sound only baby monitor to listen to the child, then, if they hear something unusual, they grab the Lorex monitor and turn it on to see what the child is up to. Not so elegant, but it works.

It's worth noting that this issue, which many consider to be a key design flaw, would be an extremely easy fix for Lorex to implement; simply add a "sound always on" and "video always on" setting to the setup screen. Hey Lorex, how about a firmware update!?

    2. Beeping Upon Button Use: The handheld monitor beeps "loudly" every time you press any button when using it. This annoys a number of people because it wakes their sleeping spouse next to them during the night when they are using the baby monitor to check on the child. This could be easily fixed by Lorex by implementing a mute, or volume setting in the monitor's setup screen. Hey Lorex, how about a firmware update!?

    3. Bad Button Placement: The relative ease with which certain buttons (e.g. specifically the power on/off button) can be inadvertently pressed. Some people complain that the buttons are just placed poorly, and shouldn't be put where they're easily and accidently pressed when picking up the device.

    4. Battery Life: Although both the camera, and the handheld monitor come with plug-in AC power adapters, many people feel that the device (particularly the handheld monitor) is short on battery life. They feel that the 2.5 to 3 hours of run time (approximately) is insufficient. Personally, I feel it's on par with such a power hungry video wireless device. Of course this isn't as easy of a fix as the first two issues (which would only require a firmware update), but of course this too could be remedied by the addition of a larger more powerful lithium ion rechargeable battery.

(It should be noted that the use of batteries in the camera, particularly during the dark when the camera's infrared lights will automatically turn on, is also very short. But for some reason, people intuitively seem to understand that the camera needs to be plugged in, and so they don't complain about this. Not so for the handheld monitor; instead, people think the battery in the handheld monitor should last as long as the other handheld device they use daily... specifically, their cell phone's battery... and who knows, maybe they're right.)

Conclusion: Ok, now I'm placing my order. I'll try to post a useful update if I find anything noteworthy to add.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost five stars if only..., January 7, 2009
I just started using this video monitor and I think it is really good quality. Picture is very clear and sharp. My only beef is that there is no way that I can find to turn the sound on constant. Basically the sound turns on every time the baby makes a noise then mutes itself after about 10 seconds until the baby makes another noise. I would prefer to have the sound be on constantly because the off and on is a bit jarring and makes it difficult to sleep. So annoying to me that I'm tempted to return it. Other than that it is a really good system and if you can stand the constant muting then this is the system for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not sensitive enough to pick up baby's noises, February 11, 2010
I researched and researched before purchasing this monitor, and I thought the pros seemed to outweigh the cons with this one, but I was wrong. I really wanted a digital monitor to reduce interference (there are a lot of baby monitors in nearby houses and our old video monitor was pure static), and one that would auto-scan between multiple cameras as I have two small children. After charging the monitor, I was pleased with the picture and sound quality, and that there seemed to be no interference at all. However, when I actually used the monitor on my children, I experienced the MAJOR problem: the auto shut off feature for the sound. I was warned about this from other reviews, but I thought I could deal with not hearing the very small noises. The first time I used it was during my 3 month old daughter's nap. I placed the camera about four feet away from her and set it on the highest sensitivity. I heard her crying from across my 1800 sq foot house and the monitor did not pick it up. Later, I tried this monitor out on my two year old son. I entered his room after an hour to find him awake and playing with toys, and the monitor never once went out of auto shutoff mode! So not only does this monitor not pick up small sounds, it doesn't pick up much at all. Needless to say, I sent it back the next day. Still looking for the perfect monitor. ... Read more
